SO
I learned stuff today
(I'm not claiming that this is interesting)

my mom
said something about
the MEXICAN has station
& I'm all like
WHAT mexican gas station
she's like
the one ACROSS the STREET

I'm like
you mean VALERO
she's like YES

I'm LIKE
do you actually have some knowledge
that it's MEXICAN
OR are you just saying that
because it SOUNDS
vaguely Hispanic

THAT
so I LOOKED it up
it started in HOUSTON
it's named after
MISSION san Antonio de VALERO
which was apparently
the ORIGINAL name
of the ALAMO

OK
so then WHY is it called the ALAMO

the mexican soldiers
found the mission abandoned
& they CALLED it
EL ALAMO

BECAUSE it was surrounded by
COTTONWOOD trees
which apparently translates to ALAMOS
BUT ALSO
they were mostly from
ALAMO de PARRAS

I've never heard about any of that
& it never occurred to me
that there WAS a story
