i saw it yesterday
fluttering around the christmas ornaments
so beautiful
and
so frightening
feathered serpent

and i wondered
why
why am i a quetz'l child

i'm not native enough to count
i'm almost too white to buy makeup
and besides
i'm all
american and stuff
