earth

i think i was young
maybe early twenties
i travelled
with my family to a foreign country
might be mexico

we were either
buying
or selling
an estate, i guess

and there was some sort of magic
involved, i guess
because
there was this ritual
or ritual-like
scene
where we were digging through the dirt
and
a stack of famous rocks and minerals
beautiful hand-sized specimens

we took them away in boxes of soil
symbolically
carrying the land away with us


and then
i was in my grandmother's kitchen
